‘UKRAINIAN RED’ ROCAMBOLE GARLIC

FLAVOR PROFILE: strong and spicy when raw, softens and loses aftertaste when sautéed.

‘Ukrainian Red’ is a hardneck Rocambole variety with a strong, spicy flavor when raw and a lighter flavor with no aftertaste when sautéed. Each mahogany-colored bulb has about 7-10 cloves that peel well. This garlic does best in full sun with well-drained soil and is adaptable down to zone 8. Shelf life is about 4-5 months when stored in cool, dry conditions. ‘Ukrainian Red’ produces meaty scapes that are harvested in the spring.
